One evening, as I was tucking my ten-year-old granddaughter into bed, I could tell something was weighing on her heart. At first, she brushed it off with a quiet “Oh, nothing,” but after a few gentle questions, the truth came out. She told me about a boy at school—a bully who had been teasing her friend and had even pushed her down. We talked through what had happened, and then we prayed together—for her friend, for the boy, and for a peaceful night’s sleep.
As I left her room and turned off the light, I couldn’t stop thinking about the kinds of things children carry with them at bedtime these days. Between social media, constant negative news, violence on television, and the dark themes so often woven into kids’ shows and movies, many children are falling asleep with fear, anger, or sadness on their minds.
That night, I felt a deep conviction: I wanted to give kids something better to carry into their dreams.
So I decided to write God’s Goodnight Stories—a book filled with gentle, faith-filled bedtime stories designed to shift a child’s focus away from the worries of the day and toward the unending love of God. My hope is that every night, as children drift off to sleep, the last thought in their hearts will be this simple, powerful truth: God loves them deeply, and they are safe in His care.
