I found surface mold in my home and immediately panicked. Initially, I contacted a company that came in, “looked,” threatened that it was probably toxic mold and told us that they needed to start tearing our house apart. The man doing the inspection said that he had no idea how much mold we had and said that the only way to determine that would be to start tearing down walls and tracing it. He was quick to say that they would tear down as much as was needed to be torn down and that they would remodel it all. He scared us out of our wits. We packed up our children and left the house. I was so scared I went into panic mode and was not thoroughly thinking things through.

 

The next morning, I decided that I should get a few more opinions. I contacted Bill from AMI. He was a breath of fresh air. He spoke with me on the phone and explained about mold and mold testing. He taught me why it is good to have a mold test before tearing down your house. He took much more time than he needed to help me calm down and relax. I learned that AMI is a neutral party. They come in and test for mold. They do not remodel and they do not do remediation. So, he was not trying to encourage me to tear down, remediate and remodel. He was helping me to fact find. He was factual, informative, compassionate and did the job immediately.

 

Bill sent one of his guys out to our house that same day and the testing was complete. The AMI tester was also thorough, kind and provided a lot of information. He too, spent more time with me than he needed to explaining and reasoning. AMI worked with me to make decisions upon which testing was necessary and went above and beyond to try to make it affordable while being effective. I received results within days. Luckily, the numbers were not too high. Bill explained that we had “common” mold not “toxic” mold and told me that it was fine to go on living in our home. He referred me to another company for remediation. Thankfully, we found that we did not have mold in our walls. We had surface mold from time to time due to environmental moisture. This was something that we could help to control. Remediation was not necessary.

I would recommend AMI over and over again. From my experience, I would say that the company is built on honesty, integrity and understanding. Thankfully I found AMI. And, thankfully, Bill is the type of person who runs a legitimate company based on values.

Having mold is scary, confusing, & expensive, but you have to get rid of it ASAP. And I don't know about you, but I don't want the guy who's going to clean it up, be the same guy telling there is mold....that's where Bill & AMI come into play. They ONLY inspect and they do it honestly & fairly priced. If you have mold, do yourself a favor & spend 10 min reading the website, or better yet, call Bill and ask about their services. You'll be glad you did! I hope I don't have mold again, but if I do I'm calling Bill first thing.

AMI is AWESOME! I found them online, and thought if they are on "The Doctors" show then that seems credible, for me. I had to find a company to test the house, after a contractor did not contain the area which was exposed to mold....and unfortunately the mold was spread though the AC unit to the entire house...with the spread of mold spores. My landlord had a friend of his call me up to pick up a mold sample to send in the mail so it could be tested by the landlord...I couldn't believe what I was hearing...send mold in the mail???  What do I say when the Post Office asks if I'm sending any toxins and chemicals. It was then that I knew I had to take things into my own hands. That's when I referred AMI to my landlord. The landlord called, & AMI was scheduled to come out the next day...considering we already had a doctors order to get the mold tested "STAT" ...the next day wasn't good enough. I called AMI myself, and explained to Bill that it was doctors orders. The doctor needed to know what kind of molds had been making my family sick (coughing, headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding gums) so she could prescribe Anti-Fungal medication to my family and I. Bill sent out Evan the same day. Evan was professional and was finished up in about 20 minutes. 

***TIP*** Tenants...make sure the entire house is tested (every room), even if you have to pay for it!!! The landlord only paid for one air test and one surface test in the main contaminated room. Unfortunately, the landlords insurance company stated the entire house was contaminated by the spread of mold spores through the AC Unit. Therefore, the entire house should have been tested!!! But the insurance company denied the claim...so when we retested after restoration, there was nothing to compare the other rooms too.
The test came back three days later...wish someone would have said...hey...you need to move 7 days ago! Average high levels are at 270, our levels were 11,300!!! It's all in the numbers!!!
Seven weeks later, AMI was called out again to do a new test. They were professional...I only wished they were a contracting company for mold remediation, you could hire.

AMI was the best...just wish.they did the clean up too.

One of the best and smartest things I have ever done is hire AMI to perform a mold inspection. About a month ago, I was in the inspection stage of buying my first home and I thought it prudent to have a certified mold inspector look at my house as some mold had already been detected by myself in an independent inspection. I went on the internet and found AMI and called and spoke with Bill. He spent over 30 minutes on the phone with me explaining the benefits of a mold inspection as well as the different things to look for, etc. He was extremely knowledgeable yet explained everything so that I could understand and was very kind and listened well. I felt very comfortable with him and appreciated the fact that his company does not perform remediation tasks, just inspections, as they feel it is a conflict of interest. I set up a time to meet him at my prospective new house and he performed a thorough inspection, took samples and turned around a report in 48 hours. I am very glad I got the inspection because it uncovered a serious mold problem that the sellers failed to disclose. If I had not had the inspection, I would be faced with serious problems today. Nobody should buy a house without a mold inspection performed by AMI. I am living proof that it saved me thousands of dollars in mold remediation.

I was in escrow on a house in June, 2005, and the contingency period was extremely short. My husband had to go out of town at the last moment, and I was left with all the inspections to get taken care of. I only had five days (two of which were Saturday and Sunday). I found AMI online and called Bill. I told him my circumstance of running out of time and he was very professional and came out to do the mold inspection the very next day - he drove from San Diego to Del Mar so I could have my inspection done in time. He is very professional. He explained everything to me and answered all of my questions. Bill is extremely knowledgeable about mold. I have a lot more knowledge now about mold than I did before talking with Bill.

I had to have the samples expedited because of the time frame of our contingencies. Bill promised they would be done in time and they were. The results of the testing were not good and he saved us a ton of money - we cancelled our escrow. If we had not known what existed in this home, it would have cost us at least a hundred thousand dollars to fix, probably more. Plus, more importantly, our family would have been living in a hazardous environment. I can't recommend Advanced Mold Inspections enough. In a world where companies say they'll get the job done, make promises they don't keep and are unprofessional, Bill and his company gave me hope that there are good, honest people who run good, honest companies. After having lived in So CA for 40 years, I had the shock of my life to see my backyard flood over 10 inches and saw things in my yard floating away during the recent rainstorm just a week ago.  The nightmare really began when my children discovered black mold against baseboards of their bedroom.  After emptying each bedroom and moving furniture, we discovered black mold in each bedroom and a total of 5 different areas of our home. In a desperate search to find answers, I called the number on AMI's website well after normal business hours and actually got to speak to Bill.  He was not only friendly, knowledgeable, but seemed to be an absolute pro (he talked me through my panic).  Surprisingly, he set up an appointment for me the very next morning, and I got off the phone with a sigh of relief to know that help was on the way.

The next morning, I received a call from Evan stating he was going to be a little late.  The appointment was set for 10am, but Bill mentioned they would shoot for earlier (at my request-possibly 9am). It is extremely rare to see a business being not only accommodating, but also courteous.  

When Evan arrived, we discussed the problem, he explained the process he would be going through, and answered all the questions my wife and I were peppering him with. It was clear that Evan was an experienced professional, but also demonstrated knowledge and empathy.  Another rare trait in businesses today. The whole process lasted about an hour from beginning to end, and we had a conversation about what to expect after the visit today. If you have a problem in your home, and are in need of professionals that actually care and clearly have the experience, you need to call AMI. Bill and Evan will save you from trying to guess with Google.
